three of my loves:

our dog, Chase (whom we rescued from Pets Alive Niagara in 2020)
writing and word play/rhyming
classroom teaching and storytelling

This has truly been a Canadian self-publishing labour of love . . . with a little help from a furry, four-legged friend from Kentucky, USA.

I hope that my picture book serves as an inspirational steppingstone to a child's passion for reading.

I also hope that through following Pup's own journey, readers understand the invaluable role that empathy plays in keeping all creatures connected.

Lastly, I hope my book serves to educate readers on the important organizations and individuals involved in animal rescue and adoption.

FROM RESCUE TO READER...

LOUIE

This is Louie. He is a two-year-old Doberman mix, who was rescued from the Whitby shelter a year ago. Being crated most of his days for the entire start of his life, Louie came home with a lot of trauma and issues. But, with a ton of patience and hard work he is now the BEST dog. This book, which we read to him, is so moving and brought tears to my eyes. Louie has now found his place and is part of our pack. Highly recommend this read for anyone who’s rescued an animal. It also makes the perfect gift for someone you know who has opened their hearts and home to an animal in need.

Silas is originally from Dauphin Manitoba. (https://www.lostboyshope.ca/)

His original owners moved away and abandoned him. He has had three foster families and one failed adoption since March of 2025. We adopted him in October and couldn't love him more.

What a lovely book, Luisa! How talented you are. Love the themes of fitting in, hope, finding your pack, all having different likes and dislikes and bringing in the environment and naming so many different animals who Pup makes friends with along the way. So love that it is a story inspired by your own dog. The illustrations are also so beautiful and capture your words too. Just love it! Brilliant! Such talent! I can’t wait to give it to our niece who has a toddler and loves story time and dogs. 🐕💕
