Feeling alone in the world, Pup is a stray dog who has never had a loving family to call his own. While on his journey in search of belonging, will sweet encounters with creatures and people ignite a spark in Pup to bravely sniff out a forever home?

Part of Your Pack:
A Rescue Tale
was created by combining
three of my loves:
This has truly been a Canadian self-publishing labour of love . . . with a little help from a furry, four-legged friend from Kentucky, USA.
I hope that my picture book serves as an inspirational steppingstone to a child's passion for reading.
I also hope that through following Pup's own journey, readers understand the invaluable role that empathy plays in keeping all creatures connected.
Lastly, I hope my book serves to educate readers on the important organizations and individuals involved in animal rescue and adoption.

"A sweet story to share with family and friends. Children and adults alike will appreciate the illustrations of familiar creatures, along with the easy rhyme scheme. Lloyd brings first-hand experience to this loving tale of lost and found."

"My Grade 3 class loves this book! Ever since I read it to them, they've been fighting over who gets to read it next. Not only were they enraptured by the story and have been talking about being part of a pack like Wiggle Butt, but they told me how much they also enjoyed the illustrations...the children thought it was so cool that the story was written by a local author and the illustrations completed by someone from their town!"

"We liked reading this book because it's funny. The animals talk to eachother, and we also enjoyed the way the story rhymes. We're happy that Pup finally found his forever home!"

"As a retired teacher-librarian, I wish I had had this book in my collection! Everyone would like to belong to a forever pack like the main character, Pup. Enjoy his journey to find that forever home, through the well-written and delightfully illustrated pages of this book. It has a resounding message for us all."

"Knowing the author, Luisa Lloyd and her family for over 20 years- it brought me great joy and privilege to read this story to the many students who enter my library. My students couldn't wait to sit down and read the book, as many of them have dogs, and many shared that theirs were rescues from abroad. They truly enjoyed seeing the pictures in the book as I described the author and the family. Great connections were made to the book, and some students who struggle with their literacy skills were able to pick up on the rhyming words! Each page brought them such joy as they got to chime in and read along. It was a great read aloud with lovely pictures for students to share their animal stories, and to build wonderful discussions about saving an animal's life!"

" What a joy it is to share this book with my grandson! The dialogue moves across the pages, the words flow all around the illustrations - using rhyming, counting and alliteration. As we read, we are also subtly given knowledge about various creatures (possums sleeping in the day, an "army" of frogs, a "swarm" of bees). While following Pup's journey, we learn how the rescue system works. The rewarding culmination at the end of the book, which makes the story that much more meaningful, is to see the real "Pup" who inspired this story. This story brings home the fact that, as all dog owners know, our "Pups" are a special part of our families. There is so much to this book on all levels. A must-have for school libraries and home collections!"

Being crated most of his days for the entire start of his life, Louie came home with a lot of trauma and issues. But, with a ton of patience and hard work he is now the BEST dog. This book, which we read to him, is so moving and brought tears to my eyes. Louie has now found his place and is part of our pack. Highly recommend this read for anyone who’s rescued an animal. It also makes the perfect gift for someone you know who has opened their hearts and home to an animal in need.

Silas is originally from Dauphin Manitoba. (https://www.lostboyshope.ca/)
His original owners moved away and abandoned him. He has had three foster families and one failed adoption since March of 2025. We adopted him in October and couldn't love him more.

What a lovely book, Luisa! How talented you are. Love the themes of fitting in, hope, finding your pack, all having different likes and dislikes and bringing in the environment and naming so many different animals who Pup makes friends with along the way. Love the themes of fitting in, hope, finding your pack, all having different likes and dislikes and bringing in the environment and naming so many different animals who Pup makes friends with along the way. So love that it is a story inspired by your own dog. The illustrations are also so beautiful and capture your words too. Just love it! Brilliant! Such talent! I can’t wait to give it to our niece who has a toddler and loves story time and dogs. 🐕💕

I absolutely love the book. I read it twice, back to back, and each time with tears of Pup's story as if it was Jalapeño's. The story is beautifully written with the rhymes and illustrations.
Thank you for writing this book. It will be treasured in our home!
